SUMMARY:Truck and machinery safety workshop (9 August Wudinna)
DESCRIPTION:Eyre Peninsula producers operating heavy vehicles and who drive agricultural machinery on public roads can learn more about road access\, safety\, maintenance and compliance at a series of workshops in August. \nThe interactive workshops\, hosted by Grain Producers SA with the support of the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR)\, will feature practical demonstrations for producers on their truck maintenance obligations as outlined in the National Heavy Vehicle Inspection Manual\, advice and feedback on the National Class 1 Agricultural Vehicle and Combination Mass and Dimension Exemption Notice (Ag Notice)\, and training on the NHVR Portal. \nThe portal training will focus on different dimensions\, mass\, and conditions of access for eligible agricultural vehicle or combinations and how producers can apply for permits to move ineligible oversize and overmass machinery on public roads. \nNHVR representatives will be delivering the portal training and will be able to answer questions from producers about safe travel on key freight routes. \nAdditionally\, as part of the Roadworthy Heavy Vehicles campaign\, participants can access a free heavy vehicle inspection with a local mechanic to gain practical tips on maintenance checks. \nThe Moving Ag Machinery … Made Easy! and Roadworthy Heavy Vehicles … Made Easy! projects are funded by the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator’s Heavy Vehicle Safety Initiative\, supported by the Australian Government. \nRegistration is essential and can be done online. \n\nCleve (8 August): https://bit.ly/GPSA-Cleve23\nWudinna (9 August): https://bit.ly/GPSA-Wudinna23\nCummins (10 August): https://bit.ly/GPSA-Cummins23

SUMMARY:GRDC National Farm Business Update online\, The farming challenge - decision making in the face of uncertainty (online 5 April 2023)
DESCRIPTION:The farming challenge – decision making in the face of uncertainty \nBarry Mudge\, Barry Mudge Consulting \nThis livestream will delve into the dynamics of making decisions and judgements with incomplete information and uncertain conditions. Barry believes farmers are notoriously shrewd at operating in such circumstances however sees opportunity for improvement in how decisions are framed and analysed with what he calls “more informed intuition – not perfection”. This can be most critical when the decisions involve relatively high stakes. \nBarry has a practical background with farming in a highly variable low rainfall environment and has been directly involved in both the practical and technical aspects of agriculture for over 40 years. He has managed the family farming property in the Upper North of SA for over 15 years and has had stints during his career with the Commonwealth Development Bank and Rural Solutions SA. \nGo to eventbrite (link below) to get tickets to this free 1 hour event. \nGet tickets

SUMMARY:Into Ag Program (Cleve\, 14-17 March 2023)
DESCRIPTION:‘Into Ag’ is a four-day introductory program for young adults who might want to give farming a try. It has been designed for school and university leavers\, who are interested in pursuing a career on-farm. The young adults will stay in Cleve for the week\, and participate in a range of farm safety\, communication\, GPS\, and livestock training. The program has been designed so that they can walk straight out of the four days and into a job on farm. We also have registered new farm employees\, who are using it as a professional development opportunity. \nThis program has been designed to sit alongside formal agricultural training such as the Cert 3 and 4 certificates. I see it acting as a small introductory program for young adults\, where they can have a taste without committing to a full study program. \nThanks to our sponsors\, we do have some ‘no-charge’ spaces available for young people that want to work\, but who do not have the $550 available to cover the course cost. \nRegistrations can be made by following this link – https://events.humanitix.com/getting-into-ag \nPlease note that all accommodation\, meals\, and transport is covered in the registration fee. Registrations will close on Friday 3rd March. \n
