GRDC Farmer Update Cleve (27 July 2023)

Grain growers from across Eyre Peninsula will gather in Cleve later this month to discover the latest grains research and development outcomes that offer the potential for positive impact on-farm.

Among the guest speakers will be Sarah Day from SARDI (South Australian Research and Development Institute) who will provide insight into tackling the key challenges when growing lentils. Sarah explores the agronomic fundamentals of lentil agronomy and key considerations for nitrogen fixation.

Learn how the 2022 season has impacted soil nitrogen and carbon for this season. CSIRO’s Mark Farrell’s presentation will showcase the opportunity for growers to improve soil carbon levels on sandy soils. 

Discover how the economics of subsoil amelioration stacks up on a variety of soil types. Royce Pitchford from Pinion Advisory outlines the key considerations for growers when achieving the best bang for your buck when ameliorating soils. 

With last year’s season being front of mind for growers Sara Blake (SARDI) provides an update on pulse diseases. Sara’s presentation will provide a showcase of the varietal options on the horizon and key strategies when effectively managing pulse diseases.
