The group behind a vision created to strengthen the future of the Eyre Peninsula’s farming sector has been recognised with a prestigious SA award.

Ag Innovation Research Eyre Peninsula (AIR EP) took out the PIRSA Grower Group Award 2024 at the Ag Excellence Forum and Awards on 5 August, 2024.

The award recognises the work of AIR EP and its partners, the SA Research and Development Institute (SARDI) and the Eyre Peninsula Landscape Board, to create the EP Ag Vision 2050. The vision is a strategic plan for the region’s agriculture industry that sets out a long-term commitment to supporting and enhancing its future across the EP.

AIR EP Executive Officer Naomi Scholz said the plan aimed to assist the industry to remain competitive and sustainable by tackling local challenges and seizing new opportunities in five key areas – profitability, productivity, environment, social and governance.

“EP Ag Vision 2050 is a testament to AIR EP’s proactive approach in planning for the future and its commitment to fostering a thriving agricultural community for generations to come,” Ms Scholz said.

“This award is a fantastic achievement for all involved in the creation of this plan, including our project partners and all of the farming and agricultural research stakeholders who provided their input during the development of their road map for our industry’s future.”

Vision 2050: A shared vision for farming on the EP provides a blueprint setting out the priorities for agricultural research and investment in the region.

“Agriculture is an important industry to the EP and this plan sets out how we can support and strengthen the sector through ongoing research, development and extension work over coming years,” Ms Scholz said.

“It allows us as an industry and a region to work together the identify challenges, work towards possible solutions and capitalise on opportunities that will assist our producers.”
