WA/SA Hay Run | Eyre Peninsula Delivery Update

Get your cameras and drones ready – the WA/SA Hay Run is ready to depart!
Trucks are loading 6,000 bales of hay, ready for delivery to drought-impacted regions across the Eyre Peninsula. All hay sourced for this run is of export quality and the WA-based Farmers Across Borders team have been actively working with PIRSA Biosecurity to co-ordinate this mammoth delivery.
A total of 84 road trains, 2 firefighting units and 10 escort vehicles will travel as 4 separate convoys, travelling over 1500km from Fraser Ranges in WA. Departing on Thursday 24 July, they make a few short stops in WA before heading across the border. Arrival at the Ceduna Quarantine Station is estimated between 10:30am – 12pm on Saturday 26 July.
From Ceduna, the trucks will head to Wudinna, with some peeling off beforehand to service the Western and Far Western regions of EP.
The convoy is due to arrive at the Wudinna Viterra silo site on the Eyre Highway from mid to late afternoon, as well as other truck sites around Wudinna. The Wudinna Community Club are hosting a Saturday night dinner for all drivers and associated entourage. This will also be attended by the South Australian Drought Commissioner, Alex Zimmermann who plans to attend local football in Kyancutta and catch up with local farmers and community members.
Local volunteers will host a Sunday morning breakfast for the truck drivers and support crew from 6am at the Wudinna Club.
From Wudinna, trucks will fan across the EP to fulfill pre-orders of hay, with many heading to Cleve where trucks will arrive at the Cleve Field Day site on the Birdseye Highway. The actual route from Wudinna to Cleve is still being finalised but imagine it will be to Lock and then across.
For convoy updates, follow the Farmers Across Borders or Need for Feed Facebook pages.
For travellers in the region, please be mindful trucks will be travelling at 90km/hour. Each heavy vehicle will have a clear number on it to assist other motorists with passing. Hay run drivers will be using channel 40. Drones have been arranged to take footage of the convoy when in Ceduna, so be mindful of areas where other UAV’s may be active.
