GRDC Grainstorm Invite

| Posted in

GRDC are seeking your help, expertise and experience as industry thought leaders to shape the next decade of groundbreaking grains research for Australian growers.

In 2024, GRDC commissioned an independent review in late 2024 to answer an important question: What is the right level of research, development and extension (RD&E) investment to deliver the best outcomes for Australian grain growers, now and into the future?

The review found that GRDC’s strong financial position presents an opportunity to invest in additional RD&E on behalf of growers over the next decade. This is on top of existing investment that continues to deliver strong returns for our sector.

We are now reaching out to growers to understand their priorities and needs when it comes to blue-sky or reach new frontiers research. This consultation will build on what we learnt from growers to shape our current RD&E Plan 2023-28. We know from that engagement that they have a strong appetite for increased investment in Reach New Frontiers focus areas to:

  • Transform efficiency of input use
  • Step-change in soil and water productivity and
  • Unlock plant potential.

So, what does this investment look like? That is where you come in. We want to hear any bold, innovative, new ideas for research that will drive groundbreaking change and deliver greater impact on-farm. Your knowledge and expertise will ensure this investment reflects what growers need, now and in the future.

As a thought leading grower, your involvement in this consultation is invaluable.

We are starting with several face-to-face and online events in October, followed by additional engagement opportunities through until March 2026. Our initial events will bring together innovators and thought leaders, providing a forum to share views and ‘grainstorm’ ideas to identify where to target blue sky research.

We are also planning additional events early in 2026 to work around growers’ on-farm and seasonal activities. There will also be other engagement opportunities supporting growers to have a say. You can also contribute directly by emailing: newfrontiers@grdc.com.au.

Your expertise, experience and advocacy are invaluable to us, and we welcome your feedback.
