Winter crop harvest is now in full swing with a soft finish and rainfall across southern regions allowing crops to fill under mostly favourable conditions. As harvest picks up pace, attention will shift as to whether current price support will hold once selling pressure intensifies.
- Australia’s export-dominated grains and oilseeds supply chain runs through three main bulk handlers – CBH Group, GrainCorp & Bunge (formally Viterra) – and each is now pursuing a distinct climate strategy with direct grower implications.
- Livestock markets have found support from recent rainfall which has encouraged restocker activity across sheep and cattle sectors, while US export demand for beef in particular remains substantial.
- Lamb and mutton prices have eased throughout October, but will the recent rainfall see restocker activity start to ramp up?
- While prices have been falling from record highs, most are still sitting at least 20 per cent up year-on-year. Fleeces brought out of storage have been propping up auction numbers, however, testing numbers are down nine per cent year-on-year.
