Petition for Doppler Radar on Lower EP
Tom Venning MP is coordinating a petition for the Government to commit to delivering a Doppler weather radar on the Lower Eyre Peninsula, because our region deserves the same level of weather monitoring and protection as similar communities across Australia.
The “blind spot” over the Lower EP, marked in red on the map below, exists because the Lower Eyre Peninsula sits at the extreme outer margins of the nearest Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) Doppler radars in Ceduna to the west and Adelaide to the east. By the time these beams reach the Lower EP, they are too high in the atmosphere. Consequently, the system fails to detect low-level precipitation and the low-altitude wind shears necessary for accurate readings.
