EP Water Security Response Plan released
In addition to progressing construction of the Billy Lights desalination plant, SA Water has released the EP Water Security Response Plan, which includes Level 2 voluntary water-wise measures for primary producers.
These measures are designed to encourage landholders and water users maximise water efficiency, reduce costs, and improve productivity.
Key Actions for Primary Producers:
- Free Water Assessments: available for operations using over 1 megalitre of water annually to identify water-saving opportunities.
- Efficient Surface Cleaning: use high-pressure cleaners or hoses with trigger nozzles to reduce water waste on vehicles, machinery, and hard surfaces.
- Upgrade Appliances: access rebates for water-efficient models like toilets and washing machines.
- Fix Leaks: promptly repair leaks in taps, showers, and appliances to prevent water waste.
- On-Farm Water Use: optimise water use without compromising productivity, invest in rainwater storage solutions, and minimise crop spraying water use to 60 litres per hectare where possible.
- Advanced Metering & Leak Detection: install smart meters and leak detection systems to monitor and reduce water loss.
