Derisking the sowing program on EP – a comparison of different seeding systems and crops in 2026
The Minnipa Agricultural Centre operates two broadacre seeding systems. One is a tyne-based Horwood Bagshaw Precision Seeding System (PSS), the other is a RootBoot Razor, single disc hybrid system. The vision of this project is to compare the two seeding system’s effect on crop establishment and vigor in cereal and lentils particularly in the early stages of growth.
Comparison will be through a side-by-side analysis of paddock strips in a cereal paddock and lentil paddock (South 3) on the Minnipa Agricultural Centre, replicated 3 times.
1. Horwood Bagshaw PSS – Twin shoot (fertiliser placement below seed), 300mm tyne spacing, Trailing presswheels, 9.6m swath width
2. RootBoot Razor – Twin shoot (fertiliser placement below seed), 250mm disc spacing, Trailing presswheels, 12m swath width
