Understanding herbicide residue on challenging soil types within the southern region

Project Location
Lower Eyre Peninsula
Project Manager
Naomi Scholz
Start Date
March 2025
Finish Date
June 2026
Funding Source
GRDC via SARDI
Funding Amount
$9,000

To develop a better understanding of the nature and scope of herbicide residues issues, paddock surveys will be conducted in soil types of concern in SA. To determine phyto-toxicity thresholds, glasshouse dose-response bioassays will be conducted for these soil types for two herbicides and two crop types relevant to each region.Six demonstrations will be implemented in the six cropping regions of SA as an avenue for promoting and communicating the research work and outputs to growers, advisors and local farming systems groups. The demo strips will include district farmer practice (control) vs low and high simulated concentrations of residues of particular concern to the specific region. Local agronomists and farming systems groups will assist with site selection and extension at these sites.

AIR EP is supporting the Lower EP delivery component of the project.

Demo site location: Coulta - Reflex residues, paddock going into Canola

Paddock survey locations:
1. Coulta - Reflex
2. Cockaleechie - Sakura
3. Ungarra - Reflex
