Farmers Wanted: Help Build the Case for an EP Weather Radar

Grain Producers SA (GPSA) has asked Climate and Engineering Consulting (CEC) to develop a business case for a Doppler weather radar on Eyre Peninsula, including consideration of the additional benefits an Automatic Weather Station (AWS) Mesonet could provide.

CEC is seeking input from local farmers to better understand how improved weather information could support farm planning, risk management and day-to-day decision-making.

The business case is being prepared by Dr John Nairn and Bruce Gunn, both former Bureau of Meteorology State Directors. They bring extensive experience in weather services, radar networks and the development of business cases for new weather infrastructure.

As part of the project, CEC has met with Bureau of Meteorology executives and spoken with representatives from agriculture, aviation, fisheries, emergency services, local government and Southern Launch.

This farmer session is an opportunity to:

• Hear more about the proposed Doppler radar and AWS Mesonet
• Discuss how more accurate and timely weather information could benefit farm businesses
• Share examples of where gaps in current weather data affect local decisions
• Help ensure the business case reflects the needs of Eyre Peninsula farmers

All interested farmers are encouraged to attend, and the invitation can be shared with others who may wish to contribute.
