Planning Through the Unknown – Weather, Crops & Tactics for 2025
Mallee Sustainable Farming group recently hosted a webinar on “Planning Through the Unknown – Weather, Crops & Tactics for 2025”. You can watch a recording of the webinar here.
In this timely GRDC RiskWi$e webinar, farmers and agronomists come together to tackle the uncertainties of the 2025 season. With some areas already receiving a seasonal break and others still holding their breath, the session offers practical strategies to help you navigate key seeding decisions.
👉 Jeff Braun (private agronomist) shares insights from 2024’s dry sowing outcomes, lessons learned, and what to watch for this year.
👉 Barry Mudge (Port Germein farmer and ag economist) explores the economics of cropping decisions across seasonal deciles and how to adjust your plans as conditions evolve.
👉 Peter Hayman (SARDI Principal Climate Scientist) explains how to interpret weather forecasts, what they really tell us, and how to use them to inform (without over-relying on them) your on-farm decisions.
This session is part of the GRDC RiskWi$e Project and supported by the De-risking Seeding Project, funded through the Australian Government’s Future Drought Fund.
⏱️ Runtime: ~1 hour, including speaker presentations, audience polls, and a Q&A panel.
📌 Next steps: Watch, reflect, and reach out to the MSF team if you want to discuss any points further. We understand the stakes are high, and you are not alone in facing tough seasonal decisions.
