RiskWi$e: New podcast drop with farmer John Richardson

| Posted in

We’ve added another podcast to the Riskwi$e catalogue. Jake Giles, EPAG Research is back in the field interviewing farmers across the EP to get their take on the season so far.

In this episode, Jake speaks to  farmer John ‘Rig’ Richardson who farms with his brother Stuart between Yallunda Flat and Tumby Bay on the lower Eyre Peninsula. John explains that their farming system is quite different from much of EP, with higher rainfall, hilly country, variable soils and poorly structured clay subsoils that are prone to waterlogging. In 2026, the season has started very wet, creating both opportunity and risk. While pastures and faba beans are performing well, wheat and canola are already showing signs of stress in wetter areas. The conversation focuses on how the Richardson’s manage nitrogen decisions, waterlogging risk, legumes, livestock and business resilience in a system where too much rain can be just as limiting as not enough.
